Matsuzawa Shigeo - Artist Profile

Matsuzawa Shigeo (1922-2022)

Born in 1929 in Ichihara City, Chiba Prefecture. After graduating from Chiba Normal School in 1950, he became a teacher at the Chiba University affiliated Junior High School. In 1956, he won the Funaoka Prize at the 42nd Kofukai Exhibition, and went on to hold many exhibitions since then.

Matsuzawa also exhibited at the 1962 Japan International Art Exhibition (now the Tokyo Biennale) and the Pan-Pacific Art Exhibition. In 1965, he held his first solo exhibition at the Ginza Sato Gallery. In 1974, he embarked on a reporting trip to the Silk Road, and held a solo exhibition at the Ginza Nichido Gallery in 1996. In 1981, Matsuzawa's art works were acquired by the Chiba Prefectural Museum of Art. Many of his works have also been published in art magazines and weekly magazines.
